Hannah Williams & The Affirmations

Hannah Williams & The Affirmations are coming back to Nijmegen with their new album “50 Foot Woman”. The Bristol-based Hannah Williams has impressive pipes with a hoarseness that may remind you a bit of Dusty Springfield. She released her debut album “Late Nights & Heartbreak” in 2012 with her band The Affirmations. Drummer Malcolm Catto (known for his work with Floating Points and Madlib, among others) produced the album that was very well-received.

None other than Jay-Z approached her if he could use one of her tracks for the title song of his album. This song, ‘4:44’, was nominated for a Grammy Award and helped the soul singer to more impressive collaborations. She has worked together with artists like Tyler The Creator, Guy Chambers and Pete Rock. Her singing talent was also praised by late legends like Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. Tuesday 28 January Hannah Williams & The Affirmations are going to perform in Doornroosje.

“Stomp-your-feet and clap-your-hands type of soul music that lit up the 60’s and 70’s” – Popmatters.
