Hot 8 Brass Band
The New Orleans-based Hot 8 Brass Band plays a modern and swinging mix of hip hop, jazz and funk. Their shows are perfect for party-minded people!
This traditionally formatted brass band started off on the streets of New Orleans. Its members earned a living by performing at processions and funerals during the day and in the clubs at night. After the hurricane Katrina disaster the group became famous worldwide because of their appearance in the Spike Lee documentary “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts”. The Americans have the energy and passion for this traditional style of music and manage to make it contemporary by adding elements from hip hop, jazz and funk. A show of Hot 8 Brass Band is one big party, but the message of the band is quite serious: they put a spotlight on political subjects, including the problems in their home town of New Orleans.
