Norwegian jazz formation Jaga Jazzist has been blurring the definitions of “jazz” for more than two decades now. Their music has elements from electronics, (post) rock and classical music. They are returning to Nijmegen with their new album “Pyramid”, which is set to come out through Brainfeeder, the label also responsible for releases by Flying Lotus and Thundercat.
Its members have been very active in all kinds of side-projects over the years that cover a lot of ground in terms of genres. It’s also what makes Jaga Jazzist such an interesting, fascinating and unique collective. The band makes music for the ages without any restrictions and with an impressive array of instruments. Their music is melodic, mesmerizing, delicate and subtle. The best way to enjoy their works is on stage though, as the eight-piece band has an impressive live reputation. These musicians are calculating and confident, highly skilled, passionate and unbelievably versatile. Highly recommended to fans of bands like The Soft Machine, Tortoise, Fela Kuti, John Coltrane, The Cinematic Orchestra.
