Raphael Saadiq is one of the biggest names in contemporary soul and rhythm&blues. He was born in 1966 as Charlie Ray Wiggins in Oakland and is well-known for his vintage, soulful expertise at a high level.
Saadiq learned the ropes as a bass-player in Church and school, until his was given a shot to join Prince and Sheila E on the ‘Parade Tour’. After that tour he founded the band Tony! Toni! Toné, with which he would end up selling millions of records. He was also successful with another project, Lucy Pearl.
As a producer Saadiq has an impressive resume. He produced albums for numerous acts, including for D’Angelo, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, Solange, Whitney Houston, Macy Gray, TLC and Joss Stone. Over the years Saadiq evolved his style from neo soul to funk, and to soul mixed with gospel-like rhythm&blues. In 2011 his latest album “Stone Rollin” came out. Good news though: after working for others for many years he finally started working on a new solo album. “It’s going great. I’m close to completion”.
