You don’t necessarily have to be from the United States for quality Americana nowadays, as artists like Daniel Norgren and Torgeir Waldemar demonstrate. The tall Norwegian musician has managed to impress many with both his albums and his live performances. The Viking-bearded artist first came to the fore with his self-titled 2014 album, which was as terrific as it was honest and easily could have been mistaken for a California release from the seventies. Neil Young and Gram Parsons are never far away among Torgeir’s influences, for that matter. Other influences include contemporary troubadours like José González and Tom McRae.
His second album “No Offending Borders” (2017) was well-received by the press, an album that was heavier and showed signs of Torgeir’s past as a rock guitarist. His latest album deals surprisingly with nothing but love in this turbulent era and is fittingly called “LOVE”. Recommended to fans of Neil Young, Daniel Norgren, Gram Parsons, Gene Clark and Tom Waits.
