What once started as a joke between two sixteen-year-olds in Kinsdale, a sleepy Irish fishers’ village close to Cork, grew into a serious band. Cardinals is a five-piece band that combines traditional Irish folk music with a modern-day twist.
Cardinals doesn’t only embrace the musical soul of Ireland, but also dares to push the boundaries. The result is a fascinating mix of Irish folk and rock, rock ‘n roll and shoegaze. They also add a bit of The Pogues to the mix with shanty-like vocals, refrains and poetry.
Front man Euan Manning describes it as “warm pop with a bit of punk” and he and his men are often clothed in track suits, denim leather and dark sunglasses. Their music still unites the best of both worlds. Their well-received debut EP “Cardinals” came out in the summer of 2024 and their debut album will come out in the fall of 2025 through the refined label So Young. This label is also home to bands like Been Stellar, Humour, Lime Garden and Man/Woman/Chainsaw.
