Pan Amsterdam is like a musical riddle, devised by jazz musician Leron Thomas from Houston. He collaborated with Iggy Pop and Metronomy before and is now making adventurous, boundary-pushing hip hop from New York. Once born out of frustration and a misunderstanding, Pan Amsterdam is about to release his fourth album full of heavy-hitting lyrics and genre-defying beats. Who is he? Thomas’ musical path has always been connected to those of likeminded spirits. As a child, he won a talent show in Houston together with Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child; he also attended the same art academy as they did. Later on he collaborated with jazz legends like Robert Glasper, Charles Tolliver and Roy Hargrove. He also shared stages with Kanye West, Lauryn Hill, Bilal, Erykah Badu and Mos Def.
