This psychedelic rock band broke through in 1997 with the album “K” and hits like ‘Govinda’, ‘Hush’ and ‘Grateful When You’re Dead’. Their sound takes influences from seventies’ classic rock, Indian mysticism and a bit of typical English swagger. A new album, “Wormslayer” is planned soon and the band will go out on tour to support it. This includes a show in Doornroosje!

The British band Kula Shaker named themselves after an Indian king from the ninth century, Kulashekhara. After the singles ‘Tatva’, ‘Grateful When You’re Dead’ and ‘Hey Dude’, they released their debut album “K” in October 1996. It is one of the most successful British releases and fastest selling debut albums. Kula Shaker scored their biggest hit in 1997 with the Joe South cover ‘Hush’.

The song had become very popular thanks to Deep Purple. They played ‘Hush’ in the sixties in a similar fashion. Partly thanks to ‘Hush’, Kula Shaker managed to break through in Europe and the United States. The band toured with Aerosmith and played shows at Lowlands and Pinkpop. Lead singer Crispian Mills also collaborated with The Prodigy on their album “The Fat of the Land”.

The band have released multiple albums since then, including “Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts”, “Strangefolk” and “1st Congregational Church of Eternal Love (And Free Hugs)”.
