American singer and master keyboardist Cory Henry became known as a member of jazz and fusion collective Snarky Puppy. He has so much talent though that his solo project is just as much of an experience.
Henry has been playing Hammond organ since he was two years old. With jazz, gospel and electro at the core, he managed to create a unique funky sound of his own. Sometimes his work is reminiscent of that of Marvin Gaye, sometimes of (early) Prince. His two most recent studio albums emphasize this versatility: “Operation Funk” (2022) is exactly what the title describes and “Church” (2024) is full-on gospel. To put it in his words: “Music for yo soul!”
He collaborated in the past with Kirk Franklin, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway, The Roots, Michael McDonald and Bruce Springsteen. His work as a composer, producer and all-round black-belt-on-keys have earned him Grammy’s for Best Progressive R&B Album, Latin Album of the Year and recently Best Alternative Jazz as well.
Without a doubt, Cory Henry is one of the driving forces behind the contemporary jazz scene. Live on stage, it is always top quality and an experience you don’t want to miss!
