French-Moroccan trumpet player and composer daoud creates jazz that is not easy to describe. He also made it a hobby to annoy purists. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, but he is serious about his music. His music is eccentric, sometimes chaotic, sometimes tender but always unconventional.

daoud had a rough childhood and was even homeless for a time. He calls himself the “Enfant terrible of French Jazz”, but he is also seen as a leading figure in the new French jazz scene. Musically speaking, daoud is adventurous, as long as it’s cheerful and you can dance to it. As a charismatic front man, humour is an important component of his music.

He adds elements from hip hop, neo-soul and sometimes a bit of rock to his trumpet-playing. His breezy style may strike a bit nonchalant to some, but it is put together very cleverly from a technical point of view.

daoud has shared stages at prestigious festivals with the likes of Erik Truffaz. Ever since “GOOD BOY” (2024) came out, he has been playing packed venues, including Ronnie Scott’s in London, the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz and Eurosonic Noorderslag. Live on stage, daoud and his band are unpredictable but always impressive. Expect anything from tender moments to explosions that genre conventions under pressure.
