Expressive yet thoughtful, raw yet melodic, explosive yet introverted: Library Card from Rotterdam is a band full of contrasts. The band moves between angular post-punk, magnificent post-rock, and fast garage rock. Even in a city known for its idiosyncratic guitar music, Library Card has quickly emerged as a striking presence.

Led by Lot van Teylingen, whose spoken word switches between sarcastic and sincere within seconds, Library Card leaves plenty of room in their music for the members to develop equally. From the unorthodox, striking rhythms of Emre Karayalçin, the driving bass work of Kat Kalkmans, and the seemingly shape-shifting guitar playing of Mitchell Quitz.

Calling each of the members a cog in a machine would be doing a disservice to Library Card’s human perspective on what it means to be in a band, but it is simply impossible to elevate one element of their enchanting songs above another. All of this applies to both Library Cards’ studio recordings and their live performances, which are steadily growing and have already turned a number of unreleased songs into true fan favourites.
