Automatic is a post-punk band that consists of Izzy Glaudini (synths, vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon (bass, vocals). The trio met when they were part of LA’s DIY scene and started jamming in 2017. Ever since then they have been making dark songs with mesmerizing bass-lines and a large dose of synths. It’s a sound that could have easily come from the seventies.
Inspired by the local scene’s macho culture and the rock music on the radio they decided to call themselves Automatic. It’s a name that refers to a song by The Go-Go’s; still the only fully female rock band that wrote their own songs and played their own instruments on an album that reached number one in the US charts.
“Signal”, their debut album, came out in September 2019. You can hear that film makers David Lynch and Dario Argento were influences, as it’s full of ambiguous lyrics and creepy moods. It’s also dancefloor-friendly, effortlessly cool and upbeat.
