Brant Bjork is one of the coolest persons in the desert rock scene. He will forever be known as the drummer of Kyuss, the legendary band who are acknowledged as founders of stoner rock. But the extremely congenial American is more than just a drummer. As a multi-instrumentalist, Brant Bjork has created quite a body of work as a solo artist.
He has been delivering a quality release every two or three years, the last few times under the Brant Bjork Trio name. The trio doesn’t deviate from what came before in terms of sound, however. The album “Once Upon a Time in the Desert” from 2024 is full of raw, psychedelic, soulful, groovy songs with a clear stoner rock vibe. You feel the familiar heat of the desert envelop you as if it were a security blanket. The low desert punker is heading to Doornroosje in October to once again demonstrate his rock-solid live reputation.
Dirty Sound Magnet is the special guest of tonight. Their sound is hard to put into words. The trio grew up on a diet of seventies rock jams of Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, although don’t expect their music to be little more than a nostalgia trip. Their sound is somewhere in between the instrumental virtuosity of Led Zeppelin, the raw energy of Iggy Pop and the boundary-pushing sound of King Gizzard. And it works really well, as they sell out venues left and right.
