The band loves B-movies and occult film classics, which affects the band’s psychotic rock. Joan Jett, X-Ray Spex and James Chance are among their inspirations, but The Stooges, ZZ Top and Black Sabbath are never far away.
This Los Angeles based band was founded in 2013 by front woman Bonny Bloomgarden, former Hole drummer Patty Schlemel and her guitar-playing brother Larry. Patty has left the band since then, which is currently active as a four-piece. On their latest album “Island in the Sky” the band is quite poppy. ‘What Are the Odds’ is a song that was inspired by Madonna’s ‘Material Girl’.
Death Valley Girls mostly stick to their original sound though, so expect a mix of rock & roll, powerful garage rock, punk and surf (including the echoes that come with them), humming guitars and steamy organ sounds.
