Ellende are an Austrian post-black metal band known for their melancholy and suspenseful, deeply layered music with a strong emotional impact.

Ellende have released multiple albums and EPs, each of them praised for their artistic cohesion and powerful execution. Their fifth album “Todbringerin” in 2024 made it to the charts in Germany and Austria, something that led to more international recognition in the process. The band is on an extensive European tour, playing leading festivals like Eindhoven Metal Meeting and Ragnarök Festival.

Karg, another Austrian post-black metal band, is led by founder Michael J.J. Kogler, also known from Harakiri for the Sky. The band offers an intense mix of atmospheric black metal with influences from post-rock, shoegaze, grunge and post-punk. It results in a unique and engaging sound that puts feelings of melancholy, alienation and loss at the centre.

Firtan is not from Austria, although their roots aren’t that far away. The band hails from Lörrach in Southern-Germany. They combine heavy, intense black metal riffs with orchestral instrumentation like violin, piano and dulcimer. Their overall sound is deeply layered and melancholy. The band calls Agalloch, Emperor and Thyrfing as their sources of inspiration, so fans of those bands should pay attention here.
