English rock band Fischer-Z celebrates their 50th birthday with an extensive European tour, one that includes a stop in Nijmegen. The band quickly made a name for themselves with their surprising sound: a combination of pop/rock, punk and reggae, enhanced further by the immediately recognizable voice of front man John Watts.
Fischer-Z is one of those bands that when you’ve almost forgotten about them, they suddenly show up with brand-new material. In 1979, two years after being founded, “Word Salad”, one of the biggest cult albums in the New Wave scene came out. Single ‘Remember Russia’ was played to death by John Peel at the time. The true breakthrough for the band followed in 1981 with their third album “Red Skies Over Paradise”. Fischer-Z have made 28 albums in total as of today.
Expect a selection tonight from the rich back catalogue of Fischer-Z, including Top 40 hits like ‘Marliese’, ‘The Worker’ and ‘So Long’!
