In 2019, GONG released their album “The Universe Also Collapses”, which put their primal psychedelic and progressive sounds into an auditive trip. It has been seven years since GONG mastermind Daevid Allen died. At his request the band continues on their musical mission, led by front man Kavis Torabi and vocals and guitar.
The band was founded in the early sixties and has had more personnel changes than most other bands. The current core of five members is, next to Kavus Torabi: Fabio Golfetti (guitar) Dave Sturt (bass) Cheb Nettles (drums) and Ian East (saxophone, flute). With their progressive ‘Canterbury’ sound at the core the band still sounds modern and progressive. Their artistic baggage of more than half a century includes jazz, rock, space rock, progressive rock, krautrock, avant-garde and experimental rock. Expect expert musicianship from these matadors, who have been an inspiration for many other musicians. After a two-year Pandemic hiatus Gong is now back to hitting the road. To put it in their words: “Gong has no time for the old normal, so as we look towards 2022, let us unleash THE NEW ABNORMAL! There’s a revolution coming and, by the gods, it’s going to need a soundtrack. Let us congregate, sing praises to the moon and love, love, love.”
