Tik-tak-tik-tak. Avant-garde rock, packaged in order and chaos. A psychosis of sound that would blow your granddad off his feet. On 18 April, Grandad is coming to Merleyn to share their second EP “Canine” with the world. They describe it “their shared brainchild, carefully nurtured into a charming monstrosity”.
Grandad doesn’t just push boundaries, they ruthlessly cross them, too. In 2024, a new guitarist and a saxophone player joined the band, which gave their sound a new dimension. Ever since then, they have catapulted to the top of the alternative music scene with performances all over the country. In 2025, they won De Roos van Nijmegen by crushing a sold-out Doornroosje with their overwhelming performance. They have also played festivals like Code Oranje, Valkhof Festival and Kabaal Am Gemaal in the past. Their debut EP “Porcelain” came out in 2025 on vinyl in collaboration with record label De Waaghals.
Tonight’s support is Goodnight Mars. Their stylistic roots are seemingly everywhere and nowhere at the same time, and their sharp lyrics deal with man’s stupidity in the face of social, economic and ecological collapse. In other words, Goodnight Mars is the perfect soundtrack to the apocalypse: heavy, hard and cynical, yet with a surprising honesty. Their shows make you dance, cry, and mosh, all at the same time.
