Heather Nova is coming back to Nijmegen! After sold-out shows in De Stevenskerk and Openluchttheater De Goffert, she is coming back to the beautiful setting of Openluchttheater De Goffert for an encore.
Since her big breakthrough record “Oyster”, Heather Nova has been taking her unique balance of adult pop and indie rock – with poetic influences from her idols Patti Smith and Kate Bush – all over the world. This has resulted in a successful career. Records like “Storm” (2003) and “300 Days at Sea” have been staples in European album charts.
What Heather truly earned her loyal fan base are her live performances, however. Known for her extremely powerful, yet angel-like voice, she can perform just as easily at big rock festivals with a full band as she can in intimate theatre settings with just a cello-player to support her.
Heather Nova is prolific and continues to release new music. New album “Breath and Air” came out in February 2025. Nova was born on Bermuda in 1967 as the daughter of a Canadian woman and a Bermudian father. She spent most of her youth on a boat with her family. In the middle of the tropical ocean, music was an everyday presence and this remained the case for the rest of her life.
In February 2025, Heather released her thirteenth album, “Breath and Air” through V2 Records. It’s a collection of atmospheric songs, rich in melody, lyrics, and arrangement, featuring Heather’s signature, powerful, and ethereal voice. The album has a timeless quality to it, an invitation to forget everything for a moment and simultaneously reconnect with yourself.
In March 2026, after yet another sold-out tour, Heather Nova will release a double-album with live performances. The album contains 19 songs from different shows of the tour, performing both old favourites and new tracks from “Breath and Air”.
The full set is carried by just Heather on guitar and Midori Jaeger on cello and backing vocals. The minimal approach offers the songs a clarity and intensity that fans of Heather’s work will definitely appreciate. Heather has always been at her best live on stage: “I always have the sense that something magical is happening when you’re singing live, something that is impossible to reproduce in a studio. If I can feel the energy of the audience, I’m able to reach a higher level with my singing.”
“I believe live music will become even more important for people. These are strange times that make it harder and harder to discern what is real and what is artificially created. Sharing music in a space with other people reminds us of the value of human connections. That’s worth its weight in gold.”
