Pop funk icons Level 42 are coming back to Doornroosje as part of their World Machine 40th Anniversary Tour.
Legendary bass player Mark King is known worldwide for his skilled ‘bass slap’ technique. The band scored hits worldwide during the eighties with songs like ‘Love Games’, ‘Lessons in Love’ and ‘Running in the Family’. In the Netherlands, the band scored no fewer than sixteen top 40 hits. Level 42 was founded by Mark King, Mike Lindup and Phil & Boon Gould back in 1980. The typical “left hand slap” bass sound of Mark King is almost synonymous with the eighties, the decade in which shoulder pads and toupees were are all the rage. The bass style, combined with the harmonies and falsetto background vocals of King and Lindup, are at the core of their characteristic jazz, soul and funk sound.
