Magnapop
American band Magnapop was founded in Athens, Georgia. Fixtures in the band are singer Linda Hopper and guitarist Ruthie Morris that have been the core of this raw power pop band since day one.
The success of Magnapop started in Europe when they played a few festival shows. Success in their home country followed. They recorded a number of albums through PIAS (1992’s “Magnapop”, 1994’s “Hot Boxing”, 1996’s “Rubbing Doesn’t Help”), produced by Michael Stipe, Bob Mould and Geza X, among others. The singles ‘Slowly, Slowly’ and ‘Open the Door’ were hits.
In the late nineties, the band (temporarily) called it quits. Hopper and Morris did the occasional duo performances, but it took until 2005 before the band returned with a new drummer and bassist, as well as with a new album, “Mouthfeel”. In 2012, the original line-up got back together and sparks flew just like 25 years before.
And we’re still enjoying benefiting from this up to this day. The endearing personality of singer Linda Hopper, the raw guitar sound of Ruthie Morris and the driving, tight rhythm section with drummer David McNair and Shannon Mulvaney on bass will bring back the original magic of the band. Expect a good slice of Magnapop’s repertoire, including the hits and perhaps even some new work.
