Marcus King is only 26 years old, but has already had an impressive music career so far. Not that strange of course when blues guitarist Marvin King is your father! Marcus has a voice that’s almost as raw as Joe Cocker’s, as soulful as Cee-Lo Green and as gentle as Ray LaMontagne. Soul, blues, jazz: he can do it all. His six-piece band brings these genres to life to the fullest.
His debut album “Soul Insight” from 2015 made a big impact straight away. With his “soul-influenced psychedelic Southern Rock” he combined a traditional core sound with fresh energy. On his second album “The Marcus King band” from 2016, Marcus had some help from influences Derek Trucks (playing guitar on ‘Self-Hatred’) and living legend Warren Haynes (known from Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band and The Dead). Especially Haynes had a big influence on the record, as he also produced it. King and his band quickly made a follow-up and released the “Due North” EP in October 2017 and a full-length album called “Carolina Confessions” in 2018. In 2020, “El Dorado” came out, which is an album that was produced by Black Keys front man Dan Auerbach.
