This night will feature two very different, yet very great psychedelic rock bands. Both Mars Red Sky and Somali Yacht Club have managed to release quality albums in recent years, gaining a lot of fans in the process. Tonight, Doornroosje is the place to be to see them live on stage.
French band Mars Red Sky takes slow riffs in the tradition of Black Sabbath and Kyuss, and combines them with high ethereal vocals that you’d associate with psychedelic rock bands from the sixties. Whether you listen to the albums or experience their music live, their colossal and trippy stoner rock will take you on a mind trip. Just listen to ‘Collector’ of their most recent album “The Task Eternal” from 2019. The melodious vocals of Julien Pras, the powerful drumming of Mathieu Gazeau and the heavy bass lines of Jimmy Kinast turn Mars Red Sky into a unique live experience of the highest caliber.
Львов, in the Ukrain, isn’t well-known for its weathered heavy rock tradition. It’s where Somali Yacht Club hails from however. About ten years ago they started off as a jam band, but have since evolved into a tight psychedelic stoner rock band. S.Y.C. isn’t pressed for time in their compositions, but takes the opportunity to let them ripe and allow them to work as stories. The trio adds elements from post rock, metal, psychedelia and prog to the mix as well. Their latest record “The Sea” came out in 2019 and is a gorgeous affair. We’re expecting new work from both Somali Yacht Club and Mars Red Sky.
