American rock band Masters of Reality, led by Chris Goss, is coming to Nijmegen for the very first time. Chris Goss is not just the only constant member of the band, he is also its founder, front man, guitarist, lyricist and producer/Visionaire. The band was at the core of a scene that led to genres like desert rock and stoner rock.
The debut album “Masters of Reality” from 1989, known to fans as “The Blue Garden”, was produced by none other than Rick Rubin and released on his own Def American record label, with this being the very first rock album on it. It is full of heavy, grooving tracks with an exceptional sound quality. Songs like ‘Domino’ and ‘Candy Song’ can rightfully be called classics. Chris Goss, also producer of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, perfected the typical Masters of Reality sound on the next five albums. “Sunrise on the Sufferbus” from 1993 and “Deep in the Hole” from 2001 are especially worth a mention. The stoner rock, psychedelic blues, prog rock and catch melodies on those albums are still in a league of their own. It has been over 15 years since the last record, but the band is preparing a new album for later this year. First single ‘S.U.G.A.R.’ is already out and demonstrates that Goss still has it. He is often referred to as the Godfather of desert rock. Even though he doesn’t want to wear the crown, it still fits him. We are very glad to welcome him to Doornroosje.
