This year, the band Playlunch broke through in their home country with the single ‘Keith’, which was streamed millions of times, after which their second album “Sex Ed” sold like hotcakes. After many festival shows and a sold-out club tour in both Australia and New Zealand, the band is now coming to Europe for the first time. Expect an evening full of good vibrations at Merleyn!
Their debut single ‘Soupe Opera’ (2023) went viral on TikTok within days, and later that same year their debut album “Who’s Ready for a Good Time” (2023) followed. The result: instrumental funk from the late 70s, combined with the mixtape aesthetic of early hip-hop heroes and a healthy dose of bedroom pop.
Lyrically, they frequently reference (the Australian) subculture, which enhances the band’s comedic atmosphere. Their second album “Sex Ed” (2025) immediately became a hit on Australian radio station Triple J, marking a successful entry for Playlunch into the North American and European music markets.
The Australians draw inspiration from bands like Vulfpeck, Silk Sonic, and many soul and funk heroes from the 70s.
