Psychonaut
In the past few years, Psychonaut managed to work themselves to the top of the Belgian Underground in record time. Their inventive post-metal is rock-solid.
Describing them as “post-metal” is actually a bit of a misnomer, as the band is much more than that. With complex, adventurous compositions and a mix of clean vocals and raw screams, they manage to create a sound of their own with elements from post-, sludge- and progressive metal. And that’s impressive, as Belgium has tons of great bands at the moment. From Amenra to Modder, from Brutus to Briqueville, from Pothamus to Hippotraktor: these are all top bands. Psychonaut still manages to set themselves apart, though. Their brand-new album “World Maker” proves this once more. It is a gorgeous and powerful successor to the already-great records “Violate Consensus Reality” and “Unfold the God Man”.
Extended, instrumental sections, sharp contrasts, an almost intangible atmosphere and intriguing, engaging tracks characterize this album. Pompous, pounding parts alternate with mystical, melodic sections. The fantastic production makes it complete. This is a band at the peak of their powers, delivering the best and most balanced album from their career to date. And let’s not forget that they are also a terrific live band! We are very happy to welcome them to Doornroosje for a headline show, a must-see for any adventurous rock and metal fan. Highly recommended to fans of Gojira, Mastodon, Cult of Luna and even Tool.
