The influence on pop music of the 71-year-old American singer-songwriter Randy Newman cannot be underestimated. The man, with his immediately recognizable nasal voice, started off his career in his teens, when he delivered hit after hit for others (Gene Pitney, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield) as a songwriter. In the seventies he broke though as a solo artist: with his sarcastic lyrics and inventive piano-playing style Newman made a number of classic albums like “Good Old Boys” and “Little Criminals”. The American singer-songwriter and pianist was praised for his sharp, touching, ironic and sometimes sarcastic lyrics.
In recent years he has been re-interpreting his own work on two “Songbook” albums. He has also composed Oscar winning music for Disney/Pixar movies like Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. A living legend!
