The Sheffield singer, guitarist and producer Richard Hawley once played with the band Pulp, next to his good friend Jarvis Cocker.
It is that same Jarvis Cocker that convinced Hawley in 2000 to release his “home recordings” for real and focus on a serious career. In 2003, Hawley’s debut album “Lowedges” came out. It did not lead to an international breakthrough right away, but it did earn him a lot of respect in his own country.
Bands like Coldplay, Radiohead and R.E.M. have all gone on record to praise Richard Hawley. If you listen carefully to his music, it is hard not to get infatuated with his warm voice. His music holds both beauty and drama in all of its simplicity. Tonight, Richard Hawley will do an acoustic solo show in the intimate Purple Hall of Doornroosje.
