Robin Kester
With her debut album “Honeycomb Shades”, Robin Kester offered a unique sound: an eccentric mix of pop, electronic music and psychedelia, full of dark, mesmerizing tension.
In September 2025, her new album “Dark Sky Reserve” will come out through British label Memphis Industries. Inspired by Air, Talk Talk and Portishead, this layered work features a combination of minimalist lyrics and rich arrangements, using Wurlitzer piano, brass, strings, harpsichord, synths and fuzzy guitars.
For this record, she collaborated with producer Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding). There are also guest appearances by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Rozi Plain. While working on the record, a visit to a water reservoir near Talybont-on-Usk in Wales marked a turning point. The alienating beauty of the deep, silent water and the surrounding mountains made their way into her lyrics. The result? Robin Kester’s “Dark Sky Reserve”. In December we’ll be able to hear the result in Doornroosje.
