Ryley Walker creates minimalistic songs with mesmerizing guitar parts. The songs of the Rockford, Illinois songwriter also include jazzy drums, psychedelic strings, calm piano sounds and his own dreamy vocals. His songs are layered in a very clever way, full of twists and turns and narrative elements.
He found his audience when he released his second album “Primrose Green” in 2015, after which he struck out on an intense and successful worldwide tour/ After a much-needed break he returned with the albums “Golden Sings That Have Been Sung” (2016) and “Deafman Glance” (2018). In 2021 “Deep Fried Grandeur” came out, a live album of a collaboration with the Japanese psych band Kikagayu Moyo that was recorded at the Le Guess Who festival. The album – that consists of just two tracks – came out just before he released his sixth and best received solo album so far, “Course in Fable”. Recently “A Tap on the Shoulder” came out, an album with his usual collaborative partner and Squirrel Bait founder David Grubbs. Every single one of his releases demonstrate how terrific Ryley Walker really is as a songwriter.
