STAKE is the successor to Steak Number Eight. The Belgian troublemakers decided to change their name for good after five years. Musically speaking not a lot has changed fortunately: catchy, edgy noise and sludge metal songs with influences from grunge are still at the core of their sound. And that’s good news, as that’s exactly what made this band so good.

Their new album “Critical Method” can be seen as a logical successor to the four previous albums. Their familiar calling card of heavy industrial noise is still there, but there are traces of grunge and other types of rock in it as well now, even symphonic rock. Despite these subtle changes in sound, it is still very much the same band as Steak Number Eight, only with a bit more room to breathe every now and then. They manage to stay at the high level of earlier works; the new album is probably their best one yet even. Add to this their impressive live reputation and you have everything you need for a terrific and engaging night in Merleyn.

Eindhoven band An Evening With Knives makes gritty, sweaty stoner, post metal with sluggish guitars, sludgy rhythms and vocals that fit the sound. Their album “Serrated” (2018) was well-received by critics, a record that grabs you from the get-go and drags you into its dark musical vision. Highly recommended to fans of QOTSA, Raketkanon, Melvins and Red Fang.
