Steel Pulse is one of the most influential reggae bands in the world. They celebrate their 50th Anniversary with an extensive tour, which includes a show in Nijmegen!
The band was founded in 1975 in Birmingham by David “Dread” Hinds and Selwyn Brown and grew into an icon of socially aware music. Their breakthrough came with the album “Handsworth Revolution”, which also led to tours with punk bands and reggae legends like Burning Spear and Bob Marley.
In the eighties, they broke through in the United States with the album “True Democracy”, even winning a Grammy in 1986 for “Babylon the Bandit”. Their music combines roots reggae with different other influences and carries powerful, political messages of social justice and anti-racism.
