Los Angeles-based Sunday Mourners released their debut album, “A Rythm Absolute”, via Curation Records earlier this year, showcasing a sound that blends proto-punk, post-punk, gritty rock, and slacker pop while exuding a distinct 1980s vibe.
Flatwound strings, dry vocals, and brittle vintage cymbals evoke the sleek, understated aesthetic of their favorite artists, such as Subway Sect, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and Television. After years of musical wandering—including a stint in freak-folk—the band has arrived at this razor-sharp post-punk sound. The album feels like an acknowledgment of social inequality and the dystopian economic times in which we live.
Sunday Mourners consists of childhood and college friends Quinn A. Robinson (vocals, guitar), Maxwell Pugh (guitar), Casey Conklin (bass), and Z Evan Long (percussion).
