Trumpetist Takuya Kuroda, born in the Japanese city of Kobe, is a forward-thinking musician with a unique, hybrid sound. His style is somewhere in between post-bop, soul-jazz and jazz-funk, with a large dose of hip hop and afrobeat. Melodies and grooves hold strong among these extremes.
Kuroda studied at the renowned Berklee College of Music and kick-started his career in New York. There he developed a style of his own and was involved a long-time collaboration with singer José James. Nowadays, Takuya Kuroda lives in Brooklyn. He is very prolific, having released six albums in the past decade, each of which strengthened his reputation in the world-wide jazz scene more and more.
His new album “Everyday” came out in February. In November, he will perform in Doornroosje.
