The Limiñanas
The Limiñanas is a rock band from Southern France that’s led by Lionel and Marie Limiñana. The band was founded in 2009 and grew into one of the most recognizable bands in the current French rock scene.
Their music is a pleasant mixture of psychedelic rock, garage rock, shoegaze, sixties rock, French chanson and yé-yé, a typically French pop style from the sixties.
The sound of the band is original and consists of an almost hypnotic and cinematic sound. There are influences from a band like The Velvet Underground, but also from Serge Gainsbourg and American garage rock from the sixties. The band creates a musical soundtrack with bare-bone, repetitive elements, both French and English vocals, dreamy melodies, exciting hooks and raw guitar lines.
The duo has collaborated with quite a number of high-profile artists over the years, including Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Peter Hook (Joy Division) and techno legend Laurent Garnier, with whom they recorded the album “La Pelicula”.
In March 2025 their new album “Faded” came out, another quality entry in their impressive oeuvre that plays to their strengths. This time, guests include Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Jon Spencer (Blues Explosion). Some elements from exotica and krautrock can also be heard on this new album.
