In the decade since the band was founded, English indie rock trio The Orielles from Halifax have been on a cruise through different genres. Back when they were still teenagers, they were still a lo-fi indie band. Nowadays the band with Henry Carlyle Wade and the sisters Esmé and Sidonie Hand-Halford are no longer restricted to just one or even just a couple of genres.
On their most recent album “Tableau”, their explorative, avant-garde side is more dominant than ever. The record was inspired by holistic jazz, modern electronics, experimental 1960s tape loop methods and extraterrestrial Autotune sounds. The downer dub of Burial, Sonic Youth’s focus on improv and feedback, and Brian Eno’s legendary Oblique Strategy cards are also among their inspirations. The album is an intriguing narrative of experimentation, improvisation and of a band that’s discovering an entirely new sonic pallet on the go. This is bound to be great live on stage as well!
