Trupa Trupa is one of the most eccentric bands from Poland. Hailing from progressive Gdansk, the collective is able to blend wave, postpunk, shoegaze and psychedelia to something unique. Their sound is ragged, dark and at times even pitch black. Their new album “B Flat A” was received very positively with four stars in The Times because of their mix of progressive rock, punk, avant-garde, and even a dose of humour. At the same time, they also use their music to highlight some of the darkest events in Polish everyday life.
The music of Trupa Trupa is inspired by Wire, Syd Barrett and Fugazi and inspired by dark humour, great literature, poetry collections and current events in both Poland and the rest of the world.
Grzegorz Kwiatkowski (vocals, guitar), Wojciech Juchniewicz (vocals, bass, guitar), RafaĆ Wojciech (guitar, keys), and Tomasz Pawluczuk (drums) have been in Nijmegen before for the Upon the My-o-My’ festival in Doornroosje and are now back for a show of their own in Merleyn. The were initially signed by Sub Pop, but once the Americans realised the lyrics were very critical of society they decided against the deal. The label Glitterbeat wasn’t phased by that and released their debut album shortly thereafter. This is also the label that released their latest album “B Flat A”.
