Valley of the Sun is a stoner rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. The instantly familiar, fuzzy sound is enhanced with influences from blues, grunge and hard rock. This results in an intriguing whole with dark elements drenched in psychedelia.
Releases by the band are quite rare. The band has put out a mere four albums so far, of which “The Chariot” from 2022 is the most recent one. As with its predecessors, taking time seems to pay off, as it resulted in albums that are of the highest quality. It is not that strange to see them featured quite heavily among critics’ Favorite records of that year. The unique vocal style of Ryan Ferrier and dark riffs that sound almost effortless are somewhat reminiscent of grunge bands like Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age and Kyuss.
Tonight’s support act is German band Daevar. This trio plays suspenseful doom that’s a lot breezy than you’d expect, partly due to the mesmerizing voice of singer and bassist Pardis Latifi. She uses subdued, slow-paced singing to create a wintery world, evoking imagery of the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights.
