Wayside is inspired by the sounds of the nineties, the time of grunge, emo, shoegaze and other alternative sounds. The results are still impressive. This is authentically sounding rock/metal, only updated to 21st century standards.
Wayside hails from Australia. With their 2021 debut “Shine Onto Me” they already had a hit in their own country. This success led to successor “What Does Your Soul Look Like” being recorded with producer Will Yip, who also worked on albums by Title Fight and Turnstile. The boundaries between emo, post-hardcore, shoegaze, grunge and nu metal dissipate on this record. The songs on it are both louder and softer than the ones on its predecessor, offering more space for experimentation as well. Influences from Superheaven and Citizen are also present. Fans of these genres and bands know enough by now.
Unfortunately, Post Profit have called it quits so they are no longer on tonight’s line-up. They will be replaced by Blanket from Blackpool (UK). The band offers an intruiging mix of post-rock and shoegaze.
