UADA from Portland, Oregon has been shaking up the black metal scene in the past ten years with their unique mix of compelling melodies, bone-chilling riffs and raw intensity.
From the moment their debut “Devoid of Light” came out in 2016, an album with a sun on the cover that’s now regarded as iconic, they have been building up a cult status through their epic, mesmerizing compositions. The sound embodies a melancholy grandeur, the fast tremolo-picking guitar playing razes through the speakers like a storm, all of which is combined with hypnotizing vocals and fierce drums. On the albums “Cult of a Dying Sun” (2018) and masterpiece “Djinn” (2020), they expanded and refined this sound even further. These albums featured more complex structures, atmospheric breaks and lyrics full of mysticism and inner darkness. UADA is a band without gimmicks. This is pure, emotional black metal that is uncompromising. Highly recommended to fans of Dissection, Emperor and modern acts like Mgła and Misþyrming.
