Lady Blackbird is the alter ego of Marley Munroe. The American artist had made her name in her home country as a gospel singer up until a few years ago. In recent years, she rediscovered herself as a jazz and soul singer and found inspiration in the works of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Irma Thomas.
The jazz and soul diva from Los Angeles debuted with a cover of Simone’s iconic protest song ‘Blackbird’. She did this so breathtakingly well that taking her artist name from the song was well-earned. Her debut album “Black and Acid Soul” came out in September 2021 and it highlights her beautiful, emotional voice. Lady Blackbird’s unique and expressive sound is highly recommended to fans of soul and jazz.
