One of the most exciting psych rock bands of the past few years is called Frankie and the Witch Fingers. The fuzz-drenched riffs the band creates are fed with manic rhythms and psychedelic explorations. They have one foot firmly in the sixties and the other in the here and now.
The collective, originally spawned in the American Midwest and currently residing in Los Angeles, has made the jump from being a cult favourite to a staple on international stages and at festivals in recent years. Frankie and the Witch Fingers sound like a crazier version of The Sonics after a psychedelic trip. It is a band that effortlessly blows through the decades, all the way from the sixties till now. With every new album, Frankie and the Witch Fingers hone their sound ever closer to perfection: from raw garage rock roots to extended, prog-influenced psych epics full of tempo changes, poly-rhythms and unexpected twists. Case in point: their most recent album “Trash Classic”.
Live, the band is known for performances that are closer to a seance that got out of hand than to a regular concert: tight, loud and constantly on the edge of total derailment. For those who don’t know the band yet, Frankie and the Witch Fingers is recommended to fans of, for example, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Oh Sees, Wine Lips, Ty Segall and Black Lips.
