Brooklyn, New York band Geese released their latest album “Getting Killed” on 26 September. The European tour “Getting Killed in Europe” will come to Nijmegen as well for a unique performance in Doornroosje.
After Kenneth “Kenny Beats” Blume had approached them during a music festival, Geese recorded their new album in just ten days in his Los Angeles studio. Because there was very little time for extra recordings, the end result is a raw-sounding album with a slightly chaotic structure, but one that’s full of passion and that’s inspired by their demanding vision.
Garage riffs are combined with samples of Ukrainian choirs, crackling drum machines pulse softly behind screaming guitars, strange songs with swaying accents alternate with wild, repetitive experiments. With “Getting Killed”, Geese is offering a new, disarming tenderness that’s in balance with escalating anger. The band has decided to switch their love for classic rock for a true contempt for conventional musical structures.
American critics describe Geese as “the next evolution of the New York sound”, referencing Television, The Feelies, Swans and The Strokes. The friend group once started off in a basement using sneakers as their mic stand, but they have been moving up in the world. Case in point: their latest record came out through Partisan, the label that’s also home to bands like Fontaines D.C. and IDLES.
