Meltheads
Antwerp band Meltheads is an established name in the Belgian music scene. With “Decent Sex” – their “filthy and addictive top debut” (newspaper De Morgen) – they have managed to strike out internationally as well. Those who have seen this band live before know what to expect.
Pushed forward by the metronomic, tight rhythm section of Tim Pensaert (bass) and Simon de Geus (drums), and fired up by the cutting and virtuoso guitars of Yunas de Proost, Meltheads plays a catchy slice of garage combined with clever post punk and fascinating cold wave (and other waves). They found inspiration in the works of The Chats, Amyl and the Sniffers, Gang of Four, Wire, and – yes! – De Brassers and Aroma di Amore. Their fourth member is front man Sietse Willems, a bastard amalgam of Jim Morrison’s charisma, Robert Plant’s sex appeal, Iggy Pop’s unpredictability and the bare chest of all three. Their strong live reputation is growing by the day; these young wolves go on stage every time to play the show of their lives. It is unclear where this will bring them eventually, but as of right now it seems to be one of the most happening bands of the moment.
