Samba Touré
After his terrific performance in 2015, renowned Mali guitar legend Samba Touré is coming back to Doornroosje for an encore. With mesmerizing guitar grooves that shine brighter than the desert sun, he creates a unique and boundary-pushing sonic landscape, taking us on a journey full of emotional depth and rhythmic brilliance, one where tradition and innovation meet one another.
Samba Touré started his career as singer of the band Farafina Lolo, which is how he came to the attention of legendary artist Ali Farka Touré. Under his wings, Samba Touré switched to more traditional music, growing into one of the leading West-African musicians. His debut album, Fondo, which is a 100% traditional Songhoy album, is proof of this.
The musician from the north of Mali is known for his guitar skills and characteristic mix of African blues, desert rock and traditional Mali sounds. His melancholy songs, set to mesmerizing rhythms, deal thematically with the Sahara. Next to his musical career, Touré is also an advocate for the rights of Touaregs in Mali.
