On 27 September, Fluisteraars is coming to Nijmegen for one of their rare live performances. The Gelderland band are one of the most striking collectives within the vibrant Dutch black metal scene.
Koops & Mollema, who are the core of the band, don’t care about trends and traditions and are very much opposed to uniformity. This has resulted in true gems, with the album “Bloem” from 2020 as their best-known work. The past few years, their focus was on the triptych “De kronieken van het verdwenen kasteel”. Through three EP’s, the rich history of Bennekom – the Gelderland village where the band originally comes from – is captured and told. From raging black metal with folkloric elements and magnificent riffs on the one hand, to enchanting, long-drawn-out intros and outros, pounding and hypnotically repetitive drum salvos on the other: their music has it all. Just like the use of a-typical, everyday instruments, like the flute, trumpet, trombone, piano and tambourine, but also the Saxon hill horn and Appalachian dulcimer. It exemplifies the band’s willingness to experiment. The deeply rooted love and passion for everything just below the surface is unmistakably present. This show will focus on the new work “Jacht der mysteriën” – so we are really looking forward to it.
Special guest tonight is Invunche. The Chilean/Dutch black metal project is known for the primitive mix of black metal with punk, drenched in South-American folklore and slightly psychedelic keys. Crude black metal riffs alternate with pounding drums and slow, dragging tremolo.
