Norwegian band Hedvig Mollestad Trio take their cues from basically any guitar-themed genre you can think of. Their playing style is so diverse and rich as it can be if you take heavy rock as the basis. They go from intimate and suspenseful to extremely heavy, in-your-face and losing all sense of control within no-time.
“Ding Dong. You’re Dead” is their latest album, which is a remarkable title for a remarkable band. The Norwegian trio features Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen on guitar, Ellen Brekken on bass and Ivor Loe Bjørnstad on drums and is one of a kind. Staccato bass-lines and rolling drum patterns pick a fight with Hedvig’s fierce, yet touching guitar-playing. From screeching psychedelia with a kraut-inspired pulse, to wild garage rock with surf influences, to contemporary jazz – nothing is too outlandish for them. Their performance at Sonic Whip 2022 was impressive and we expect more of that in Merleyn!
